Global Temperature Exceeds 17 Degrees C for First Time

Rapidly rising sea and land temperatures due to naturally occurring El Niño patterns and greenhouse gasses emitted by human activity, primarily carbon dioxide, led to the highest average global temperature ever recorded in early July of this year.

Scientists have long warned that the burning of fossil fuels is drastically altering the planet’s atmosphere. Recent global climate patterns kicking of an El Niño have intensified those concerns amid a rash of extreme weather events.

These have included floods, landslides, heat domes, and extreme hail.
